Face Painting

The boys and I went to a family night at the mall last night and they had free face painting. The boys have asked to get this done in the past and for me- it seems like a giant waste of money. But, since it was free- I said why not, this was their chance. We waited almost an hour in line- yes I said an hour in line. My boys are not known for their patience (neither am I for that matter), but they did extremely well (I have a new confidence that they will do fine in the lines at Disney this fall). They must have really wanted it done, for the two of them not to complain at all in the line was short of a miracle, of course they would pester each other, but than if they didn't I would have started to worry that they weren't my kids :) I don't get why they thought this was so cool. Within in 30 seconds after Cale got his done- he messed up the mouth and kept touching his face. Their faces were done being painted by about 7:30 pm, we picked up Eric (he was working late) and went home, it was washed off by 8:30, hope they enjoyed it :)

Cale as Spider Man

Why I don't like face painting.
Face painting = mess for mom to clean up :)

Blank Park Zoo

The boys and I hung out at the Blank Park Zoo for a couple hours on Saturday.
It seems to me that during this summer, Zach and Cale have really grown up and have become not just brothers, but buddies. I just love hearing them talk and play together. Don't get me wrong they still like to aggravate each other, but getting along has come a very long ways this summer.

Gotta love the penguins!

This fish pond fascinates me- maybe I am easily amused, but the fact they go so crazy for the pellets of food people toss to them all day every day just amazes me.

Joseph and the Amazing Tecnicolor Dreamcoat

Last night, Eric and I went to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Des Moines Playhouse. I just loved it! We haven't been to the Des Moines playhouse for a long time and now I would like to go back more. It's neat to see local talent perform with such energy and ability. I am easily impressed due to my lack of singing ability. I enjoy the Civic Center of Des Moines also and a few of my girlfriends and I have committed to going to a couple plays this year, which I am looking forward to. However, I do prefer the value (the cost) of the Playhouse tickets over the Civic Center tickets. :)

Grilling Out

Last Friday night- it was a gorgeous night for cousins to catch fireflies.

My dad and Uncle Larry

All smiles from these three- Jacob, Samara and Cale

Eric grilling for a little get to gether at our house.

Even the ladies came outside to enjoy the perfect evening weather.

Ankeny Summer Fest Parade

Samara waiting to catch the candy. The Ankeny Summer Fest parade is over 2 hours long. A load of candy was brought home, not to mention- coupons, tshirts, water bottles, bags, etc.

We all love parade!

Mom and dad stayed with us a few days. They watched the boys while Eric and I participated in the Summer Fest Bags tournament. It was so much fun. We have never really played before, especially in a tournament. We didn't do too bad, we even won a few. Last year we played in the volleyball tourn, but since I am still recovering from laying around for 10 weeks, throwing bags was just my speed :)

June Highlights

Spending Father's Day at a park in Ankeny, playing frisbee golf

Eric playing tennis in the Ankeny Tennis League

Cale all worn out, resting with his cousing Lexy.

Do you think they see a big fish?

On the plat form at Lost Island Lake

Lexy taking Cassie and Cale on a little ride with the jet ski

Zach and Lexy had a lot of fun on the jet ski, I was suprised that Zach kept wanting her to go faster and do circles. It was fun to see the big smile on his face.
